P3 Projects and their Impact on Florida’s Capital Project Landscape
Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) January 12, 2012 - e-Builder is proud to sponsor the first bi-annual meeting of the Florida Chapter of the Construction Owners Association of America, this upcoming February 10th at the Hilton Orlando, 6001 Destination Parkway, Orlando, FL. This educational event will provide facility owner/operators and construction professionals with insights on the impact that the P3 (Public Private Partnerships) project funding method is having on capital project development in Florida today and beyond. P3 projects leverage limited funds by partnering with the private sector, also allowing private industry partners to bring innovative approaches, both in terms of funding and project delivery methods. This event will feature speakers from The University of Florida, Phase 3 Properties, and Becker & Poliakoff, and will draw facility owners from the State of Florida, and the architecture, engineering, and construction companies that work on their behalf.
University of Florida speakers include Ed Poppell, University of Florida VP for Business Affairs and Economic Development; Carol Walker, Assistant VP, and Miles Albertson, Associate Director of Facilities. The UF team will speak on their Innovation Square Project, a developer-funded joint venture east of the campus. With 45,000 square feet of incubator space encompassing laboratories, collaboration rooms and other support areas, this expansive downtown-to-university, multi-use complex is meant to serve as a breeding ground for breakthrough ideas and products for tech-based companies. Neil Fox, CEO with Phase 3 Properties will talk about their experience financing state university projects for UCSD and other public institutions in California. Mr. Fox will also discuss how P3s can have a huge impact in the development of research, graduate housing, and clinical facilities in university campuses in the near future. Within Florida’s DOT, P3 projects are driving the development of the I-595 corridor in Broward County and the tunnel at the Port of Miami. Lee Weintraub, Esquire, with Becker & Poliakoff will discuss legislation related to P3 projects in Florida, and what this legislation will mean for future procurement policies and procedures.
